As you all knows, we can back up our iOS device’s (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) data to our computer using iTunes. iTunes can back up settings, contacts, call histories, calendar, messages, Camera Roll, documents, saved games, and other data and we can restore this information if and when we need to. However, backed up data can only be readable by iTunes.

If you want to recover data from your iTunes backup file and use them on other applications, here is how you can simple do that with a freeware application called iPhone Backup Extractor.

As its name implies “iPhone Backup Extractor” extracts contacts, pictures, call histories, MMS, SMS, video, voicemail, calendar entries, notes, app files, saved games, debug information and data from your iTunes backups.

Extracted data will automatically converts into CSV, VCard or ICAL formats, so they can be easily imported into Excel, Outlook, or Webmail. Also, it can convert consolidated location data into a KML file for use with Google Earth.

How to recover data from your iTunes backup file?

1. Download iPhone Backup Extractor (Windows, Mac and Linux) and run the program.

2. It searches for all the iTunes backups on your computer. If your backups are not in the default folder, select the folder manually.

3. Once the search completes, the app will populate it with the list of all the data available. You can extract each item by clicking on it.

Note that, the pro edition of the iPhone Backup Extractor includes full encrypted backup support, where the free and home editions limit users to extracting only four files.

Interested users can download iPhone Backup Extractor free from developer’s website. The application supports Windows, Mac and Linux Oss.
